The thunderstorms that roared through Morristown on Friday afternoon left damage in their wake.

As of 3 pm on Aug. 3, 2018:

About one-third of Jersey Central’s customers in Morristown–3,250 customers–have lost electricity. Some 1,288 customers are affected in Morris Township, and 133 are out in Morris Plains, according to JCP&L.  Across Morris County, 8,422 of JCPL’s 201,171 customers are affected.

Morristown police say South Street is closed in both directions, from Elm to DeHart streets, because a large tree toppled across the roadway near Miller Road.

Pine Street also is closed due to flooding.

MacCulloch Avenue is closed at Miller Road.

James Street closed in the area of Thomas Jefferson School.

Police say numerous trees and wires are down: “Everyone is reminded to stay away from any wires that are down as some may be live.” Citizens are encouraged to contact Morristown Police, at  (973) 538-2200, to report downed trees or wires.
