Grow It Green Morristown Launches Pop-up Farm Stand to Expand Access to Fresh Produce

This summer, Grow It Green Morristown has launched a new Pop-up Farm Stand to bring its fresh, affordable produce to residents in census tract 435.

To reach families without access to the transportation needed to visit the Farm Stand (at the Urban Farm behind the Lafayette Learning Center), the nonprofit is taking its Farm Stand on the road.

The Pop-up Farm Stand is just like Grow It Green’s beloved Urban Farm Stand; however, this stand will be located throughout Morristown’s lowest-income neighborhoods.

Beginning July 11, 2018, the Pop-up Farm Stand will have produce for sale, on a rotating basis, every Wednesday through November from 3-6 p.m. at the Early Street Community Garden, the Neighborhood House, and George Gramby Memorial Park at Abbett Avenue.

This week’s location: The Early Street Community Garden, from 3 pm – 6 pm.

Grow It Green has always been committed to providing fresh, local food and outdoor community spaces to all area residents. It created the Early Street Community Garden from an abandoned lot, as well as New Jersey’s largest public education farm, providing educational opportunities for more than 3,000 children a year.

Much of the food grown at the Urban Farm is donated to community shelters and kitchens. Double SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps) are available on produce sold at the stand, enabling program participants to get $2 worth of produce for every $1 spent.

This program is made possible with support from the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network Community Grants Program and the Morristown Rotary Club, allowing Grow It Green to expand outreach efforts and provide fresh, local produce to Morristown residents that are currently underserved.

Be on lookout this summer and fall for our Grow It Green truck and Pop-up Farm Stand! For more information about Grow It Green Morristown, visit www.growitgreenmorristown.org.

  1. Kudos to Grow it Green. This so wonderful. Nothing beats real food.
It reminds me a little of my childhood on Long Island where girls from a local farm used to walk the neighborhood streets with a large pushcart filled with their farm grown produce and fruit. The peaches were amazing.
