Two persons injured Monday night when a tree fell onto their car remain in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Morristown Medical Center, police said on Tuesday.

The victims identities have not been released yet, as notifications still are being made to their families, and the accident remains under investigation, Lt. Stuart Greer said in a statement.

The car was traveling on Ford Avenue, just north of Franklin Street, at about 8 pm, when police and firefighters were called to the scene. Firefighters had to extricate the occupants from the car.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the two victims and their families,” Mayor Tim Dougherty said in a statement.
