From the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer:

Bishop Mary Glasspool to Preach at Redeemer

The Rt. Rev. Mary Glasspool, assistant bishop in the Diocese of New York, and the first openly lesbian woman to be elected a bishop in the Episcopal Church, will preach at the Church of the Redeemer for Redeemer’s annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride celebration.

The service will take place at the Church of the Redeemer, 36 South St., Morristown, on June 24, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.

Bishop Glasspool made history in 2009 when she was elected Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Los Angeles as an openly lesbian woman. She served in that diocese until 2016, when she joined the staff of the Diocese of New York.

“Bishop Glasspool is a person of extraordinary ability and deep faith, and a passionate preacher,” said the Rev. Cynthia Black, rector of the Church of the Redeemer. “It will be a joy to hear the message of God’s love and justice that she will have for us.”

The Church of the Redeemer celebrates several “Liberation” Sundays each year, including observances of LGBT Pride Sunday, Men’s Journeys (Father’s Day), Women’s Journeys (Mother’s Day), Genocide Remembrance Day, Recovery Sunday, Transgender Day of Remembrance and others.

The Church of the Redeemer is a Christian liberation community in the Episcopal tradition, serving the people of Morristown and beyond for more than 165 years. Sunday services are at 8 am and 9:30 am (inclusive worship).

As part of its practice of radical hospitality, the church provides space to the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, the Eric Johnson House (part of NJ AIDS Services), a number of 12 step groups, and Empty Bowl Zendo.
