Video: Morris Township residents, officials spar over affordable housing plans

Emotions were raw at Wednesday’s six-hour Morris Township Committee meeting.

Here is a video glimpse.

Residents from the Liberty Greens townhouse community, irate at what they perceived as short notice, pressed the Committee to reconfigure a plan for affordable housing on a 27.5-acre wooded parcel off Punch Bowl Road that is owned by the Sisters of Charity.

The Committee is racing to finalize affordable housing ordinances for a June 15, 2018, court hearing.

At one point in the video, Mayor Peter Mancuso admonishes resident Peter Broeman to let Township Planner Paul Phillips speak.

Broeman vows to vote out the elected officials if they don’t protect his property value by mandating large setbacks for future housing on the tract.
