Opera at Florham brings Puccini’s Bel Canto Lyricism to Madison


Discover one of the musical gems nestled in the Morristown area – Opera At Florham – in residence at the historic Mansion at Fairleigh Dickinson University. OAF’s season finale on Sunday, May 20 at 2pm will showcase accomplished young vocalists performing lyrical arias by Puccini and works by composers who inspired and were inspired by Puccini.

Along with selections from Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème, artists will perform works from Amilcare Ponchielli, Erich Korngold, Richard Strauss and Claude Debussy. The concert finishes with show tunes by composers influenced by Puccini – Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera and Jonathan Larson’s Rent (performed by the full company).

Performers include Meryl Dominguez, soprano, a Resident Artist of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, Matthew Ciuffitelli, baritone, winner of the 2018 NJ State Opera Guild Prize, and Roy Hage, tenor, a two-time Grammy nominated artist. Acclaimed pianist, Mary Pinto, will provide accompaniment and perform during Intermission.

A complimentary pre-show lecture about Puccini, the Bel Canto era of opera, and the composers past and present who were influenced by Puccini, will be given at 1:30pm by Mark Fine, Instructor at Florham Institute of Lifelong Learning.

The Mansion

The concert takes place on Sunday May 20 at 2pm set in the drawing room of the Vanderbilt-Twombly gilded-age estate, The Mansion at Fairleigh Dickinson University, 285 Madison Ave, Madison, NJ. A shuttle from the main parking lot will be running. Tickets $30 are available online or at the door. Seniors $25. Students $5.
