It was billed as a night of Tales and Tunes.  If only there were more of both on Thursday at the Bickford Theatre!

Ninety minutes just can’t do justice to Jerry Vezza and Grover Kemble.

But they managed to squeeze in a bunch of jazz favorites and some great originals by Kemble, including his poignant Follow, which John Pizzarelli featured on his last visit to the Bickford.

Vezza and Kemble go way back together, and they were backed by old pals Rick Crane on bass, Tom Sayek on drums and Anton Denner on sax (including one lovingly restored instrument that belonged to Vezza’s late father).

And yes, there were a couple of fun tales from Kemble’s days in Sha Na Na. Who else has jammed with Burl Ives and Keith Moon?

Here’s hoping this gang keeps getting its act together–they only scratched the surface on Thursday.
