March For Our Lives: Road Closures
 
On Saturday, March 24, 2018, a March For Our Lives demonstration will be taking place at Morristown Town Hall, beginning at 11 a.m. The march is a non-partisan, student-led event that will feature opening remarks by Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty and student organizers of the march.

South Street will be closed between James Street and Hamilton Road beginning at 10 a.m. and will remain closed through approximately 1:30 p.m. South Street between Hamilton Road and the Green will be closed beginning at 10:45 a.m. until the participants return to Town Hall. Detour information is listed below. 

Participants will march from 200 South St. towards the Morristown Green, advancing onto South Park Place, which will be open to traffic with two lanes closed. From there, participants will progress onto Dumont Place, which will be closed to traffic, and will make a right onto Pine Street, also closed to traffic between Dumont Place and South Street. The march will then reverse course on South Street, working back toward Town Hall.

Closed roadways will open to traffic behind the march as it proceeds. The event will conclude with additional remarks from student organizers and performances from local organizations on the steps of Town Hall. South Street will reopen at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Organizers are expecting large crowds and highly encourage the use of public transportation. Student ambassadors will be on site, wearing orange t-shirts to help participants who may need directions or assistance. Signs are allowed, but must be made of pliable materials.  Any potential hazardous materials, including metal poles, will are prohibited due to safety precautions.

Detours:

For motorists traveling westbound on South Street:  Hamilton Rd. to Franklin Street to Elm Street to Morris Street.

For motorists traveling eastbound from points west:  Washington Street to South Park Place to East Park Place to Water Street to Morris Street.  OR  MacCulloch Avenue to James St. to Lidgerwood Parkway to Headley Road.
