MORRISTOWN, N.J. — The College of Saint Elizabeth has announced it will join the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) for the 2019-20 season.

Saint Elizabeth, which competes in NCAA Division III athletics, will continue to play in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) for the 2018-19 academic year.  The move to the CSAC will bring a number of positives, including reducing travel and missed class time, as well as competing against colleges with similar missions, values, and resources.

“We are thrilled by the invitation to join the Colonial States Athletic Conference.  We believe that this opportunity will give our student athletes a level of competition commensurate with our size and investment in athletics.  We are very much looking forward to our first competition in the CSAC in 2019”, stated Helen J. Streubert, the President of the College of Saint Elizabeth.

The CSAC sponsors 17 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports in NCAA Division III, including men’s and women’s cross country, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, tennis and outdoor track and field. Additionally, the conference sponsors field hockey, softball, women’s volleyball and men’s golf and baseball.

Out of the 11 sports sponsored by CSE, only men’s volleyball is not sponsored by the CSAC.  CSE men’s volleyball program plans to stay as a member of the NEAC as an associate member.  Baseball, which will begin at  CSE in 2019-20 season, is also sponsored by the CSAC.

“The CSAC is thrilled to welcome the College of St. Elizabeth into the CSAC beginning in 2019-20,” said CSAC Commissioner Adrienne Mullikin. “The institutional goals for the CSE athletic programs, both short and long-term, align well with those of the other nine CSAC institutions. I believe the College of St. Elizabeth will be a valuable addition to the conference from both an athletic and academic standpoint.”

The CSAC is comprised of Cairn University, Cedar Crest College, Centenary University, Clarks Summit University, Keystone College, Notre Dame of Maryland University and Rosemont College.  Current NEAC members, Bryn Athyn College and Wilson College will be joining the CSAC for the 2018-19 year.

Five current members of the CSAC are leaving to form its own conference, the Atlantic East Conference.  Cabrini University, Gwynedd Mercy University, Immaculata University, Marywood University, Neumann University, will be joining Marymount University and Wesley College for the 2018-19 academic year.

CSE joined the NEAC in 2009 after departing from the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  This will be the third conference the College has joined since becoming a member of NCAA Division III in 1988.

The CSAC was established in 1992 as the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference to “meet the needs of small, private, four-year colleges in eastern Pennsylvania.”  The CSAC embraces a “student-first philosophy by ensuring that institutions place the overall educational experience and successful completion of academic programs above all else.”
