St. Patrick’s Day Safety Precautions in Morristown

Town of Morristown and Morristown Bureau of Police promote public transportation, ride-sharing services

The safety of Morristown residents and visitors is a top priority for the Town of Morristown.

For this reason, Town administration and the Morristown Bureau of Police are encouraging those who will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this weekend to practice safe driving habits through designated drivers, ride-sharing services and are highly encouraging the use of public transportation.

“Don’t let a day of celebration turn into a day of tragedy,” added Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty. “If you drive impaired, you risk your life and the lives of others on the road. Please use public transportation or a designated driver and stay safe this weekend!”

Those who are participating in festivities tomorrow are reminded that all St. Patrick’s Day events must be held inside licensed establishments or residences and are prohibited on any public streets.

Additionally, it is unlawful to consume alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles, including those of ride-sharing and taxi services, and “open container” laws will be enforced.

Drivers and passengers can be issued summonses. No beverages of any kind, in any type of container, open or closed, will be permitted on New Jersey Transit trains, buses or light rail vehicles on Saturday, March 17, and Sunday, March 18, 2018. This policy will be strictly enforced, announced by NJ Transit on Monday, March 12.

Morristown Police Officers will be stationed at several locations across town enforcing security protocol and ensuring that all community members are staying safe and acting responsibly.
