Responding to citizen concerns, Morristown police earlier this week pledged to alert the public to unsolved burglaries and other crimes.

On Saturday, they posted this alert, about a residential burglary that occurred on Friday between 1 pm and 7 pm:

On 02/02/2018, Police were contacted by a resident of an apartment on Ridgedale Avenue near Abbett Avenue. The resident advised that he returned home after 7:00 pm and discovered that an unknown person or persons had forced entry into his apartment. Upon checking, the resident advised that an electronic item was missing from his apartment.

Morristown Police responded to the area, checked for surveillance video, and made contact with residents and neighbors to obtain information and advise them of the situation.

Detectives were advised that a neighbor reported seeing an unfamiliar black colored vehicle park in the area between 3:00pm and 5:00pm.

The vehicle was described as possibly being a Volkswagen Jetta. Two males wearing winter clothing were observed in the area of the residence but no additional information was available and it is unknown whether or not the vehicle and/or people were involved in this incident.

Morristown Police are investigating this matter and ask anyone with information to contact MPD at 973-538-2200. Information can also be provided anonymously through Morris County Crime-Stoppers at 973-COP-CALL (973-267-2255) or copcall.org.

As always, residents are urged to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. People are asked to call police anytime they observe something which appears suspicious. Additional apartment safety tips are available at www.TownOfMorristown.org
