Free firewood is coming to Morristown–you’ll just have to wait a couple more days.
Tuesday morning’s scheduled giveaway has been pushed to 11 am on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, because of rain.
Fifteen tons of firewood will be unloaded behind town hall, courtesy of town resident Len Gannet, whose Lyndhurst-based Essay Group imports lumber for Home Depot, said Councilman Michael Elms.
Elms said Gannet got the idea to donate the wood during the recent cold snap, to help residents cope with the subfreezing temperatures.
“He’s a really nice, low key, soft-spoken guy,” said Elms, who knows Gannet from the Kellogg Club.
One of Gannet’s products is a kiln-dried white birch bonfire log, which includes a chemical-free paperboard firestarter.
The Morris Brick & Stone Co. has volunteered to help off-load the firewood, Elms said.
