Drew University to honor MLK with lecture, public service

Drew University in Madison will honor the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, with a lecture by Traci C. West, the James W. Pearsall Professor of Christian Ethics and African American Studies, from 1 pm to 4 pm in the Hall of Sciences S4.

On Tuesday, Jan. 16, the school’s Center for Civic Engagement has invited students, faculty, and staff to participate in a Day of Service in King’s memory.

Trips are planned to a Morris Habitat for Humanity site, the Market Street Mission Thrift Store in Morristown, and the Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Hillside. Registration required.

Additionally, on-campus service projects are scheduled from 3 pm to 4:30 p.m. in the 1867 Lounge and The Space. No registration required.

Projects will include assembling hygiene kits and school supply bags for hurricane relief efforts, writing letters for Amnesty International, knitting hats for the homeless, decorating pillow cases for school children, and creating Valentines for senior citizens.
