When your name makes all the short lists of presidential contenders, people pay attention.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) got plenty of that on New Year’s Day in Morristown. A frequent visitor here, New Jersey’s junior Senator came this time to swear in his friend, Mayor Tim Dougherty, to a third term.
Booker also made some local history, administering the oath of office to the town’s first Hispanic councilman, David Silva, while simultaneously holding Silva’s grandson, Josiah.
“Today, this community is giving honor to our flag and our ideals,” Booker said, adding that former Morristown resident George Washington must be “feeling so proud” in heaven.
Above is video of Booker’s speech, which suggests Morristown’s diversity sets a positive example for a divided country.
