New Year’s Day 2018 was historic for Morristown’s Hispanic community, which comprises about one-third of the town’s population.
David Silva was sworn in to the town council by Sen. Cory Booker (who simultaneously held Silva’s grandson Josiah during Monday’s ceremony at the Thomas Jefferson School).
Silva, a Colombian immigrant and pastor of Centro Biblico Church, becomes the first Hispanic person to serve as a Morristown councilman.
In this video, Silva reflects on the responsibility that comes with his pioneering role–and of his intention to represent all residents as an at-large council member.
