Pretzels, anyone? Philly Pretzel Factory plans January opening in Morristown

It was a children’s birthday party that did it. The best party food was a Philly Pretzel Factory tray imported by relatives of a kid from Bucks County, PA.

Dad, a gastroenterologist by day, had party duty and was immediately impressed by the pretzels.

A lifelong denizen of greater Morristown, Rajesh Dhirmalani decided to bring a store to town. His wife Desiree, eager to return to work after raising five kids, agreed.

“With all the school activities and parties going on in the area, we knew soft pretzels with mustard would be a good fit for the area,” said Rajesh, an alumnus of the Delbarton School in Morris Township.

The Philly Pretzel Factory and its associated manufacturing jobs are moving into a double storefront at 167 South St., in the same building as LapTop MD,and a few doors down from Just Jersey and the Wine Cellar.

A grand opening is planned for January 2018.

“We go to Pretzel University on Monday for a full week of training,” Desiree said on Thursday, after obtaining site approvals from the Morristown Planning Board.

She expects her husband will enjoy the course, too.

“He’s a physician. It’s another degree for him,” Desiree said, flashing a big smile.

If all goes well, she anticipates construction will be completed by Jan. 9, 2018.

A few morsels to chew on: No one needs to worry about triggering a nut allergy when serving these pretzels at a large party. Philly Pretzel Factory ingredients do not share equipment with nuts.

Gluten-free pretzels are not (currently) available because they don’t meet the standards the corporation requires.

Pretzel Factory Pretzel dogs and Spicy Sausages are made from beef, but are not kosher.

  1. Actually, the dough is made fresh each morning, then rolled out assembly-line style on the twisting machine and hand twisted. That’s where the factory term comes from 🙂 Pretzels are baked fresh all day!
