THURSDAY, DEC. 7, 2017:

dark crystalAuthor Caseen Gaines, who gave a great talk about A Christmas Story in 2014, is back with The Dark Crystal: The Ultimate Visual History at 7 pm at the Morristown & Township Library. Free. At One Miller Road, Morristown.

 

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison presents It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, at 8 pm. Tickets start at $29 for this preview performance; $69 starting with Saturday’s official opening. At Drew University, 36 Madison Ave. Call 973-408-5600.

FRIDAY, DEC. 8:

Morning Yoga with Munah Hayes returns to the Morristown & Township Library at 9:30 am. Free. Bring a yoga mat. At One Miller Road, Morristown.

The Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green resumes this weekend. Today’s schedule:

  • Santa House: 2 to 8 p.m. – Santa visits; photos with Santa $10.
  • Tent: 3 to 5 p.m. – Holiday crafts with the Morris Museum

Holiday CraftMorristown kicks off its weekend run at the Morristown Armory in Morris Township from 4 pm to 8 pm. At 430 Western Ave. Admission: $8-$9; children under 16, free. Free parking. Call 845-331-7900 for more.

The Morris County Branch NAACP hosts its 86th Anniversary Gala at the Twombly Mansion at the Fairleigh Dickinson Madison Campus, starting at 6:30 pm. Tickets: $100 for adults; under 21, $50. Read more here.

The New Jersey Ballet’s Nutcracker brings all the pageantry and splendor of this holiday classic back to Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center for the first of 14 performances. Featuring the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Tickets:$29-$69. At 100 South St. Call 973-539-8008.

A kids band, The Green Planet, opens at The Minstrel’s revamped open stage in Morris Township at 7:30 pm. Bring a song and see what you can do! Admission: $5; age 25 and under, free. At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road.

SATURDAY, DEC. 9:

Morristown’s 70 South Gallery hosts a holiday crafts bazaar from 10 am to 6 pm.

The Center for Spiritual Living Morristown in Harding presents its holiday crafts boutique from 10 am to 3 pm.  Light refreshments will be sold, and there is a 50/50 raffle. At 331 Mount Kemble Ave. Call 973-539-3114.

Rabbi Sid Schwarz, a noted author and scholar, will present Davening Out of the Box, “a prayer experience unlike any other,” at 10:30 a.m. at the Morristown Jewish Center Beit Yisrael, 177 Speedwell Ave. At 1 p.m., Rabbi Schwarz leads a study and discussion of rabbinic sources on the keva and kevannah. The Harmonium Choral Society presents Fear Not,  a collage concert with strings, ranging from Monteverdi to Schoenberg, plus a pair of premieres and multicultural carols, at 8 pm at the Morristown United Methodist Church, 50 South Park Place. Encore show on sunday at 3 pm. Tickets: $25-$30.

The Morris Choral Societyled by Jason Tramm, presents its holiday spectacular, Resounding Joy, at 8 pm at the Morris Museum’s Bickford Theatre in Morris Township. Tickets: $15-$25. The weekly indoors Morris County Winter Farmers’ Market is back, from 10 am to 2 pm at Alexander Hamilton School, 24 Mills St., Morristown. It’s here each Sunday through April 15, 2018.

The Affordable Care Act is not dead yet. For help enrolling, the Morristown & Township Library presents free guidance from a certified counselor, from 1:15 pm to 4:15 pm.  At One Miller Road, Morristown.

An Afternoon with Thomas Nast: A Free Walking Tour, starts at 1:30 pm at the Morristown & Township Library with a guided tour of the library’s Nast exhibit, continues past Villa Fontana, Nast’s former home on Miller Road, and concludes with a guided tour of the Thomas Nast Christmas exhibit at the Macculloch Hall Historical Museum. Morristown’s conservation efforts have been recognized with Silver Status from Sustainable Jersey. Celebrate at 2 pm at the Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen, where Mayor Tim Dougherty, Glassworks Studio, the Mayo Performing Arts Center, Marty’s Reliable Cycle, Green Point Juicery, the Hyatt Regency Morristown and the Shade Tree Garage will be honored for their contributions. Admission: $15 donation to Sustainable Morristown.

Join the Morristown Cultural District at 2:30 pm for Caroling for a Cause, outside Morristown’s Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen at 110 South St. Choirs of the Presbyterian Church in Morristown and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will lead the community in holiday songs; freewill donations will be accepted for the One Love Foundation, which strives to teach students how to build healthy relationships and recognize signs of dangerous ones.

The nonprofit Our Youth Their Future presents its annual holiday party for Morristown children at 3 pm in town hall. Join Councilwoman Toshiba Foster, Santa Claus, a magician, and more, to make this afternoon special for some special kids who will appreciate your Christmas cheer.

See the first public screening of Scarlatti in New Jersey, a documentary about the first modern performance of a 1693 manuscript of a Scarlatti opera/oratorio, which was discovered in the archives of the Morristown National Historical Park.
