From Sustainable Morristown:

Congratulations to the Town of Morristown for achieving Silver Certification as part of the Sustainable Jersey (SJ) recognition program!

Morristown was recognized for this prestigious accomplishment at a luncheon hosted by Sustainable Jersey on Nov. 14, 2017, during the League of Municipalities Conference in Atlantic City.

Accepting this award were Lauren Cranmer, president of Sustainable Morristown; Jillian Barrick, Town administrator; Rebecca Feldman, Morristown program coordinator; and Ed Russick, Sustainable Morristown board member.

Morristown is one of only 14 municipalities in the state of New Jersey to earn Silver Certification in 2017. An additional 56 municipalities earned Bronze certification. Morristown’s point total of 455 was the fifth highest total earned by any municipality across the state.

Sustainable Jersey is a statewide, nonprofit organization that provides tools, training, and financial incentives to support municipalities as they pursue sustainability programs.

SJ certification is a prestigious designation for municipal governments in New Jersey. Municipalities that achieve certification are considered by their peers, by state government, by experts, and by civic organizations in New Jersey as leading municipalities in this field.

Bronze certification (which requires 250 points) means a municipality has made a commitment to sustainability and has succeeded in implementing the first significant steps. Silver certification (which requires 350 points) means a municipality has made significant progress in a number of categories toward sustainability and is a state-wide and national leader.

Morristown earned its 455 points for actions in such categories as Animals in the Community, Arts & Creative Culture, Community Partnership & Outreach, Diversity & Equity, Green Design, Recycling, Buy Local Programs, and Health & Wellness among others.

Sustainable Morristown, a local nonprofit organization which serves as Morristown’s Green Team, worked closely with Town of Morristown staff to complete the documentation requirements for certification.

Lauren Cranmer, president of Sustainable Morristown, and Ed Russick, Sustainable Morristown Board Member, played leading roles in completing this rigorous documentation process.

Sustainable Morristown is hosting a local Green Drinks event to celebrate Morristown’s sustainability accomplishments – including its SJ Silver Certification – on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, from 2  pm to 4:30 pm at Jockey Hollow Bar and Kitchen, 110 South St. in Morristown.

Mayor Tim Dougherty will attend on behalf of the town, and several local businesses will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in the field of sustainability.

This event is open to the public. Sustainable Morristown invites you to join in celebrating these outstanding community accomplishments!
