From Morristown’s Temple B’nai Or:
An opening reception for an exhibition of Mira Sasson’s recent works of art, will be held on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, 3-5pm at The Linda Grandis Blatt Gallery of Temple B’nai Or [buh-NAY OAR], 60 Overlook Road, Morristown.
The show, The Fibers of Time, opened Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 19, 2018. Gallery hours are during Temple B’nai Or [buh-NAY OAR] functions and by appointment during business hours, Monday through Friday. Please call (973) 532-2268 to arrange a private viewing.
Over the last three years, Mira has developed an original technique to invent unique works of art. Nails, threads, and fibers are woven on wood to create beautiful images. Included in her current show, The Fibers of Time, Mira not only unveils her latest works but also exhibits her art from twenty-five years ago.
Also on exhibition is a debut photography show by Mira Sasson’s daughter, Maya Sasson, Instincts. Maya Sasson has previously studied Animation at New York School of Visual Arts and is currently pursuing her BA at Montclair State University.
About Mira Sasson
Born in 1965, Mira Sasson was raised in a small ultra-orthodox community in Bnei-Brak, Israel. Mira was expected to concentrate her studies on religion, and was not permitted to express herself artistically.
Mira quickly became a passionate artist, always seen with a pencil in hand. With no formal training, her talents excelled and easily allowed her to move on to other mediums such as oil on canvas.
Her fascination with faces has been a common thread throughout her career. From the beginning, she was able to capture the inner essence of her subjects and draw the viewer into the intimacy of the painting.
At age 35, Mira unleashed her talent in writing. She wrote and illustrated a collection of children’s books. She also wrote weekly articles for a newspaper in Bat Shemesh, Israel. In 2002, Mira moved to America.
Working as a resident artist for Pioneers for a Cure, Mira painted portraits of many musical artists whose talents helped to raise funds for various cancer charities.
Her work was displayed in the Salmagundi Art Club in New York City and she was honored with the “Pioneer of the Year Award.”
Mira was also involved with Pioneers for a Cure’s creation of the first Megillah for the iPad, which showcased her talents with watercolor.
In addition to her private work, Mira uses her artistic gifts to help children with special needs in The Friendship Circle. Her ongoing work in this program has enriched the lives of young children and teens.

The Linda Grandis Blatt Gallery is located at Temple B’nai Or [buh-NAY OAR], 60 Overlook Road, Morristown, NJ 07960. The Gallery was made possible in 2009 by a grant from Bill Blatt in memory of his beloved wife, Linda, to create a welcoming portal into the sacred space of the synagogue for both members and non-members.
Temple B’nai Or is a Reform Jewish congregation and a welcoming, diverse and caring community. A portion of the purchase price of all works sold benefits the Temple.
