Morristown Mayor Timothy Dougherty was awarded the Individual of Excellence Award by Downtown New Jersey at the Downtown New Jersey Regional Conference in South Orange.
The Individual of Excellence Awards were presented to those who have demonstrated continuous leadership and dedication to downtown development in New Jersey.
Nominated by the Morristown Partnership, Mayor Dougherty was selected as an honoree based on his endless work to continue fulfilling the goals and objectives of Morristown’s Master Plan and for his dedication towards implementing successful redevelopment in Morristown.
These steadfast efforts in development propelled Morristown to becoming a leader in infrastructure improvement, traffic management strategies and smart-growth in the region.
“The renaissance of downtown Morristown is due in no small part to the efforts Mayor Dougherty has made on many fronts,” said Michael Fabrizio, former director of the Morristown Partnership.
“He has given investors and development confidence by building public trust in the development process and fostering strong working relationship between his administration, the town Council and other boards and agencies.”
During the awards ceremony, Downtown New Jersey noted, “Mayor Dougherty’s efforts to establish a common vision for the town were essential to Morristown’s continued development and revitalization,” adding that Mayor Dougherty’s time in Morristown will be seen as one of “great growth and advancement for the Town of Morristown” for years to come.
Downtown New Jersey presented 11 awards in total, including those for Excellent Built Projects and Excellent Tools of the Trade. Each year, Downtown New Jersey recognizes New Jersey’s best downtown projects and programs completed within the last two years. Winning submissions are considered models worthy of emulation and bring attention to strong vitality of downtown communities.
Downtown New Jersey is a non-profit corporation that comprises individuals, business leaders, government and nonprofit representatives that are passionate about downtowns. New Jersey downtowns act as a focal point for communities in the area, reflecting their unique identities and providing residents with a convenient local place of commerce.
