From Morris Township Police Chief Mark DiCarlo:

On Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at 2:34 p.m., Morris Township Patrolman Kevin Yarzab was conducting a property check at Jones Pond, when he located two adult males engaged in smoking marijuana. The men were in possession of a black handgun style “BB” gun, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Patrolman Yarzab was taking a proactive approach to assuring that the park areas in Morris Township are safe as he was patrolling the area on foot. Patrolman Yarzab found the men near the lake. The men were shooting the “BB” gun into the pond while engaging in the drug activity.

The men are identified as:

Santiago Montescatano, 20 years old, from Dover, NJ. Santiago was charged with a fourth degree possession of False Identification, A disorderly person’s offense for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Daniel Gomez, 21 years old, from Rockaway, NJ. Daniel was charged with a third degree weapons possession and a disorderly persons offense for possession of drug paraphernalia.

  1. Marijuana! The EVIL WEED… oh my gawd! They’re smoking it.. right behind my house! I’m going to call the police and have their lives ruined over a little bit of weed. Give me a break and have another vodka and red bull.

  2. Right behind my house! I have called the police many times over the past 30 years about activity back there. There was another occasion a few winters ago with someone holding what turned out to be a paint pellet gun to someone’s head. Another time MS-13 was spray painted on trees, it took years to fade away. I am glad that the area is now being monitored. Most of the people that go back there are not from the neighborhood and they disturb the beauty, peace and tranquility of the area. Thank you to the Morris Township police.
