People come from near and far to explore all that Morristown has to offer.

Why should humans have all the fun?

Jackie, a 2 1/2 year old German shepherd from Chatham, evidently wanted to see for herself.

She gave owner Matt Sisk the slip late on Tuesday, sending him and his mom, Linda Hobbie, into a frenzy.

Hobbie’s Facebook posting got re-posted on a slew of missing pet sites and neighborhood groups, and soon texts were flying at her, from Jackie sightings all over Morristown.

This pooch gets around.

Finally, early on Friday afternoon, Jackie’s road trip came to an end.  She was spotted, looking a little dehydrated, near the intersection of Macculloch Avenue and James Street by Randy Davis and a friend. They had read online to try the command “Jackie, leash!”   It worked.

“She stopped and walked toward us,” Davis posted online.

Reunited with Jackie, Hobbie was almost too choked up to talk.

“It’s amazing and I’m beyond grateful to the incredible community of Morristown for pulling together and bringing her back to me,” said the nurse, stopping inside the Bubba Rose Biscuit Co. on South Street, where shop owner Amanda Smith had placed a “lost dog” sign, to get Jackie some water before taking her to a veterinarian.

Jackie has been rescued before.  St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center saved her from the streets of Salt Lake City.

This time, she only had a few thorns, a cut lip and a sheepish expression to show for her travels.

Hobbie expressed special thanks to Morristown police and town Animal Control Officer Samantha Judson for their assistance.

Although the last few days were “terrifying,” Hobbie said, she never lost hope, thanks to “the overwhelming outreach that was keeping me informed.”
