The Friends of Historic Speedwell will honor Jane Kurek and John Manna as “Friends of History,” at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morris Township on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017.

Kurek, of Morristown, is executive director of the Provident Bank Foundation. She has interacted with the community via several positions at the bank, and also has served a stint at Morris Arts, managing a block grant program for the nonprofit. In 2016 NJ Biz recognized her as one of New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business.

Manna, a retired financial analyst for the U.S. Postal Service, has raised more than $3 million to restore a lock on the Morris Canal. He has been instrumental in the success of Wharton’s Canal Day Music & Craft Festival.

The awards event runs from 6:30 pm to 8 pm in the Arboretum’s Haggerty Center.  A silent auction will offer Atlantic City entertainment packages, New York Giants items, golf outings, and tickets to area theaters, spas and shops.

Admission is $75, with proceeds to help maintain the Moses Estey House at Historic Speedwell, the birthplace of the telegraph in Morristown.  For more details, call 973-285-6534.
