Authorities identify man struck by train in Morris Township as Sussex resident

A “trespasser” who was struck and killed on Monday by an NJ Transit train in Morris Township has been identified as Robert A. Matchett, 57, of Sussex.

The matter remains under investigation,NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:26 a.m. at Convent Station, involving a westbound Hoboken-to-Hackettstown train, the No. 851 Boonton Line, which left Hoboken at 9:13 am.

No injuries were reported to the approximately 50 customers and crew on board. Morris & Essex Lines were suspended both ways between Dover and Summit as authorities responded to the scene.  NJ Transit provided bus service, and private bus carriers honored rail tickets of affected customers, the transit agency said.
