Editor’s note: As we reported in June, write-in candidates William Needham III and James Sullivan Jr. are running for the Morristown council as Republicans. They are opposing incumbent Democrats Toshiba Foster and Michael Elms and newcomer David Silva. Needham and Sullivan officially kicked off their campaign this week with this statement:

From the Sullivan /Needham campaign:

James F. Sullivan, Jr. and William H. Needham III’s Announcement as Candidates for Morristown’s Council At-Large

James F. Sullivan Jr. and William H. Needham III are pleased to announce their candidacy for Morristown’s Council At-Large. Both James and William are lifelong residents of Morristown and have committed themselves to serving our community.

James and William are dedicated to restoring a quality of life that all Morristown residents can be proud of. Their goal is to restore balance to Morristown’s Council and give the power back to its rightful owners: The people of Morristown. We will fight to see that all residents are represented equally, fairly and with respect.

James and William vow to fight for Morristown by giving ALL residents a voice on the Council. James and William will fight to restore an open and accessible government that focuses on pragmatic solutions to solve neighborhood issues, provide clean and safe neighborhoods throughout the town, and responsible use of tax dollars.

As proven through their previous efforts to save the historic Greystone Psychiatric Hospital building, James and William do not back down in the face of political intimidation and never stop fighting for what is right and ethical.

If elected, James and William embrace the challenge of securing the rights of Morristown’s residents and putting an end to the many problems Morristown currently faces, including lack of government transparency, worsening overdevelopment and density, the use of tax abatements in the redevelopment zones that are directly affecting the school budget, deteriorating conditions at the town’s senior housing on Ann and Early streets, the Morristown Sewer Plant, traffic congestion throughout the town, wasteful use of tax payer dollars, and party politics obstructing sound decision making.

James and William strongly believe that party politics have no place at the municipal level and are fully committed to a bipartisan approach towards the achievement of pragmatic solutions.

James and William feel so fortunate to have grown up and continue to live in this amazing diverse community and look forward to giving back to the people of Morristown through independent, capable and honest leadership.

They look to unify all of Morristown’s residents to obtain the highest quality of life for all. To quote the great Winston Churchill: “LET US GO FORWARD TOGETHER!”

James and William are excited to campaign and eager to hear the concerns of the people of Morristown. Election Day is Nov. 7, 2017. Vote for Sullivan and Needham for Morristown’s Council At-Large to give your voice a seat on the Council!
