Tune up your mountain bikes, Ladies, and grab your best cross-country running shoes. The third annual Girls Guts Glory competition is at hand.
On Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, women will go head-to-head in a duathlon featuring runs of 1.5 miles, sandwiched around a nine-mile bike race through Lewis Morris Park in Morris Township.
It’s a benefit for the Mental Health Association of Essex & Morris.
“This event recognizes women in our society. Often they are thrust in caregiver situations. This gives them some recognition,” said G3 founder Rod Murray, owner of Morristown’s Body4Life studio.
The contest starts at 8 am, rain or shine. Online registration continues through Friday, and it’s also possible to sign up at the race.
Murray said the course has been tweaked slightly this year, to accommodate a wider range of cycling abilities. He anticipates about 40 entries.
The physiologist served as a Navy Corpsman (medic), coached the Princeton University Cycling Team, and is the author of Dynamic Flexibility: A Guide to Foundational Fitness. Girls Guts Glory aims to promote physical and mental health, he said.
“It’s about people getting together and enjoying themselves, and having a break,” Murray said.
