Dear Rep. Frelinghuysen –

There are Nazis marching on American main streets. And you helped put them there. You sat by while your party sold its soul for political victory.

You voted consistently to strip America of dignity, of health, of safety and now you put out a mealy-mouthed statement that says nothing, takes no stance.

“The hatred and violence by white supremacists in Charlottesville must be condemned. There is no comparison between those on the side of bigotry and hate, and those who manned the barriers to protest them!  The views and actions of white supremacists have no place in America.”–Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11th Dist.), Aug. 15, 2017

Your two passive sentences that someone must say something indicates that nothing you have seen bothers you particularly. Someone else, presumably, as you have not taken a stance to call the President out on his hateful statements about the violence this weekend.

Every day you do nothing about the Nazis in the White House, every day you allow people to be killed by police, by armed white nationalists, every day you do nothing to remove this incompetent and immoral man from the Presidency, you betray the sacred trust you took on so many years ago as a Representative.

Your votes indicate that women, people of color, immigrants, children — the people you represent in NJ — mean nothing to you. I have no polite words left for you.

We’ve called, we’ve written, we’ve stood outside your office and you’re responded by calling us names, intimidating constituents, and dismissing our concerns.

You’ve lied to our faces, claiming to support women and jobs and healthcare, then voted against those very things. You shake our hands, then vote to build a useless wall and deport family members.

Representative Frelinghuysen, you’ve signed on to be a traitor to America, plain and simple. And regardless of your justification for that, we’ll have to live with the consequences.

Sleep well. We sure haven’t.

Sincerely,

Erica Friedman

  1. Trump’s jaw-dropping defense of racist white nationalists and Nazis in Charlottesville exposed once more what many of us have known since he emerged as a candidate: That he is a bigot and a bully. And he has done nothing since his election to disabuse us of this notion and everything to confirm it.

Erica has hit the nail on the head when she says, Rodney has “voted consistently to strip America of dignity, of health, of safety and now you put out a mealy-mouthed statement that says nothing, takes no stance” on what is the most immoral thing Trump has done so far.

I agree that Rodney’s constituents mean nothing to him. Holding on to a powerful position in the House of Representatives is his brass ring and he doesn’t want to let it go.

We are ready for a Congress person in CD11 who represents us in an honorable way, and we will make this happen.
