From the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office:

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office will again take part in National Night Out, an annual community event throughout the country that is designed to promote cooperation and understanding between police and the public. This year’s event will be held the evening of Aug. 1, 2017.

Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Chief of Investigations John Speirs announced that representatives from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office will be available on that day from 5 to 9 p.m. at three Morris County locations:

  • Mennen Sports Arena on East Hanover Avenue in Morris Township.
  • The Butler Police Department in Butler.
  • Firemen’s Field on Beach Street in Rockaway Borough.

National Night Out began in 1984 to foster better relations between police and the people they serve. It has since grown into a truly national movement that enhances the need for residents to work with law enforcement to keep their neighborhoods safe.

Two representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office will be available at a table in each location. They will answer questions from the public and will distribute educational and informational material on a wide range of public safety topics, including drug-use prevention, anti-crime strategies and neighborhood crime prevention.

Prosecutor Knapp said, “Now more than ever, cooperation is needed between police and the public. Events such as National Night Out serve to bring both groups together in a cordial and informative setting.”
