Brian Gragnolati, the president and CEO of the Atlantic Health System, parent organization of Morristown Medical Center, has been chosen to chair the American Hospital Association board, effective in 2019.

He will become the top elected official of the organization representing the nation’s hospitals and health systems.

“More than ever, now is a critically important and exciting time to be a leader in the health care field as we drive the transformation of care in America,” Gragnolati said in a statement.

“I look forward to working with the AHA’s members across the country in support of the association’s mission to advance the health of individuals and communities.”

Soon after arriving at Atlantic Health in 2015, Gragnolati agreed to a landmark property tax settlement with the town of Morristown, ending years of litigation. A judge had ruled that Morristown Medical Center operated more like a for-profit business than a tax-exempt nonprofit.
