As the lights dimmed at the Tabernacle on Saturday, the Mt. Tabor ARTs Collaborative showed that anyone, no matter how small, can participate and succeed in musical theater.
The family friendly audience filled the seats of the quaint octagonal theater, eager to watch the popular show, Seussical Jr. And the cast and crew of the production certainly did not disappoint.
With the vibrant colors of the set and the creative costumes, the show appealed to all ages. Audience members also could purchase festive refreshments and goodies to help support the new nonprofit organization.
The Mt. Tabor Arts Musical Theater camp aims to give children of all abilities a chance to discover the magic of theater, and this performance showcased the cast’s hard work in front of a forgiving audience.
Dawn Ward-Lau, director and choreographer of the show, gave special thanks to all those who helped put the show together.
“It takes a village,” she stated, noting how many members of the Mt. Tabor community contributed to building the set during the 10-day summer camp. “Ask the people of Mt. Tabor, what did you paint?”
And this performance is just the beginning for Ward-Lau and the Mt Tabor ARTs Collaborative.
Determined to allow individuals to explore their passions for the arts, MTAC has created a six-week week Cabaret workshop for ages 14 and up.
For two hours every Thursday, individuals will work with the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs, leading to a performance in New York City.
