Black Lives Matter Morristown is hosting a networking event this Sunday, July 23, 2017, from 1:30 pm to 5 pm at George Gramby Memorial Park.

Dubbed commUNITY, the afternoon aims to bring together many local organizations, and to make the public aware of these resources, said Susan Waldman of the Black Lives Matter board.

“It’s just to bring people out, and help networking between organizations,” said Waldman, who also serves on Morris County NOW, the county Human Relations Commission, the local NAACP chapter and the New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking.

More than two dozen organizations are anticipated.

The public is invited. There will be food, beverages and games. Visitors should bring chairs or blankets for seating.  The rain date is Aug. 19.

Black Lives Matter Morristown staged marches, vigils and community meetings last year in response to police shootings of African Americans across the country.

Morristown is fortunate to have a police force that does a good job of community policing, Waldman said.

Gramby Park is on Abbett Avenue, at the site formerly known as the Abbett Avenue Playground.

  1. Where is BLM when the white woman was killed by a black Muslim cop? Does that not matter? She was white so it doesn’t matter? He was black so it doesn’t matter? Why aren’t the white people looting and rioting?
