It’s always fun welcoming a family business to the MorristownGreen.com family of advertisers–especially when that business is a pleasant surprise.

“We never planned to go into a family business; it happened organically. It’s an absolute joy for me, watching our team grow, and feeling the positive energy,” said Mary Dougherty, who, with her son Ryan Dougherty, comprises Team Dougherty of Re/Max Properties Unlimited.

“It’s nice to work with the people you love,” said Ryan.

Together, they are committed to showing home buyers and commercial customers the “Dougherty Difference” that comes from their extensive knowledge of Greater Morristown.

Mary has called Morristown home for nearly 30 years. While known to many as the town’s First Lady–her husband is Mayor Tim Dougherty–she has carved many niches for herself in the public service and business arenas.

She serves on the state Democratic committee and is past chairperson of the town’s Democratic organization. Mary also serves as a Commissioner for the Southeast Morris County Municipal Authority (SMCMUA), and as a trustee of the Morris County School of Technology.

In 2013, she co-founded the Morristown Women in Business Network. She teaches catechism classes at Assumption Church, and is an active fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Before starting her realty business, Mary worked in the corporate relocation field. This spring, she was named Morristown’s top-selling real estate agent, based on data from the Garden State Multiple Listing Service.

“It brings me joy to guide people into their ‘forever’ home,” Mary said. She especially loves introducing empty-nesters to the walkable pleasures of Morristown.

On the commercial side, she helped the Game Vault and the Bubba Rose Biscuit Co. become part of the downtown scene.

Ryan graduated in 2004 from Morristown High School, where he ran hurdles in track and was a member of the swim team. These days, his sport of choice is golf. But his passion is working with first-time home buyers.

“I simplify the process, by taking it one step at a time,” he said. “I like to see the smiles on people’s faces after they close on a property.”

Sales representative John Roderick and coordinator Ariele Dimuzio round out their team.
