MORRISTOWN — U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen’s latest telephone ‘town hall’ stuck to familiar themes Tuesday as he again defended his vote to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The first caller, identified as Sherry from Morris Plains, asked Frelinghuysen why he voted for a bill that “you yourself said is not good” — a reference…

  1. Before you accept Rodney’s statement that “the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, is failing,” I hope you will take a couple minutes to watch this short video.

Like any insurance program, the ACA depends on having a balance of sick and well participants enrolled, otherwise the insurance companies cannot make a profit. The “mandate” included in the ACA helps achieve this balance.

In this video, Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut clearly and concisely explains how the ACA is being undermined by the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce the number of participants in the program.

The ACA is not perfect, like all major safety net legislation, it requires tweaking over time. Until they come up with a better way to achieve the balance of enrollees (other than “Medicare for all,” which would do it), the “mandate” is necessary!

There are lots of claims being batted around about the “failing ACA,” but it’s important to know why this could be happening. Please watch.
