If you are a rail commuter from Greater Morristown, you are bracing for a long hot summer: Amtrak track repairs will halt most weekday Midtown Direct train service on the Morris & Essex Line from July 10 to Sept. 1, 2017.

NJ Transit will offer fare discounts of about 50 percent during this period, when riders can take trains to Hoboken for PATH or ferry service into Manhattan.

Would you prefer a daily bus from the Morristown train station to New York?  Would you pay a small premium for the convenience?

The town of Morristown is asking you to take this survey.

SURVEY: DO YOU WANT BUS SERVICE TO NYC DURING RAIL REPAIRS?

“We want to gauge public interest,” said town Administrator Jillian Barrick.

The town is exploring partnering with Skedaddle, a crowd-sourcing service for charter buses.  They want to know how many commuters are interested, what times of day they want service, and where in New York they need to go.

Barrick said the company will make a presentation to the town council on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. The meeting starts at 7:30 pm.

Commuters from neighboring towns are welcome to take the survey, she said.

“The greater the participation, the more cost-effective it is,” Barrick said.

Riders would sign up through Skedaddle and pay the company directly, she said, explaining that the town would help coordinate the logistics.

NJ Transit is posting updates about the summer schedule here.
