Ouch.

Gov. Christie’s proposed Fiscal 2018 aid package for the Morris School District is 24 percent less than what state Democratic legislative leaders say it should get.

The Republican Governor is proposing $6,800,887; Senate Democrats say the regional district should receive $8,440,276 under the state’s School Funding Reform Act. That’s a difference of $1,639,389.

Morristown and Morris Township send pupils to the K-12 system; Morris Plains sends students to Morristown High School.

Morris Plains would take a 13 percent hit (rounded) to its K-8 district.  Christie is proposing $794,845; Senate Dems say $897,369 is more like it.  That’s a disparity of   $102,524.

The numbers are courtesy of NJ Spotlight, which reports that little progress has been made towards reaching Christie’s June deadline for reaching a compromise on school funding.

Statewide, between $1 billion and $2 billion in funding could be at stake, according to NJ Spotlight.

Morris County’s biggest losers, percentage-wise, appear to be Mendham Township (75 percent), Hanover Park Regional (72) , Montville (71) and Florham Park (65).
