Constituents from Greater Morristown who traveled to Washington on Wednesday said they were unable to nail down a commitment from Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11th Dist.) to hold town hall meetings.

But WNYC may have succeeded.

“Well, we’re going to do some more town hall meetings,” Frelinghuysen responded in a brief recorded exchange as he entered an elevator. You can hear it here:

Activists from NJ 11th for Change and BlueWaveNJ have been pressing Frelinghuysen for weeks to hold his first town hall meeting since 2013. So far, he has held three conference calls with voters.

Three buses — one from Morristown, two from Montclair– brought about 150 people to DC on Wednesday.  Frelinghuysen met for a few minutes at a time with small groups.

The buses hit traffic that cut into the constituents’ meeting time; the Congressman spent a total of about 45 minutes with them, participants said.

The bus riders also met with Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and staff of Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), and watched some of the Senate confirmation hearing of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.
