BlueWaveNJ and NJ 11th For Change Lead New Jersey Coalition To Capitol Hill

New Jersey’s BlueWaveNJ and NJ 11th For Change will lead a coalition of New Jersey residents to Capitol Hill on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, to get constituent voices heard and to demand action from their representatives. To sign up, visit https://bluewavenj.nationbuilder.com/dcbus.

Expected to be in the hundreds, the group has confirmed that they will meet with (voting schedules permitting) Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker, as well as Reps. Frank Pallone (D-06),  William Pascrell (D-09) and Donald Payne Jr. (D-10).

Participants have also been invited to spend time speaking with staff members. Both BlueWaveNJ and NJ 11th For Change have requested a formal meeting with their 11th District Representative, Rodney Frelinghuysen, who has not held a town hall meeting since 2013. Frelinghuysen’s office has not yet confirmed a meeting.

Buses will depart from locations in Morristown, Montclair and Red Bank at 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 5th, and are set to arrive by late morning in the nation’s capitol.

Participants will spend several hours meeting with members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation.  The day will conclude with a rally on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

“Now is the time, on the heels of what was an overwhelming grassroots victory on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, to turn up the heat,” said BlueWaveNJ event leader Declan Carney.

“We are determined to send a clear signal to our Representatives that this won’t just be business as usual. Our voices will be heard and we will hold our representatives accountable for their decisions.”

Organizers say that engaging voters in the conversation is vital, especially as Congress continues to debate priorities in the upcoming federal budget.

Participants are asked to come prepared with personal messages for their elected officials.

“We’re asking everyone to bring postcards with their own messages for their representatives, and to bring postcards from those who can’t make it so we can hand-deliver them,” said Debra Caplan from NJ 11th for Change. “We hope we’ll have a large stack to deliver.”

Anyone wanting to send a postcard on the trip can also mail one to NJ 11th For Change, Inc. PO  Box 43120 Upper Montclair, NJ 07043.
