It was cozy, and that was just fine with Debbie Block.
“People are happy. The noises are happy noise,” said the Morristown resident at A Taste of Morristown on Monday.
Some 535 people paid $60 apiece to sample savory treats served by about 30 Greater Morristown restaurants, at the 15th annual charity fundraiser of the Morristown Rotary Club.
They elbowed their way to the roasted tenderloin, espresso marshmallows and coconut rum-and-pineapple juice cocktails inside Morristown’s Westin Governor Morris–which the Rotary left a few years ago when the event outgrew the space.
A Taste of Morristown’s more expansive digs in Hanover got booked by someone else this year, however.
“It was our screw-up,” said Rotary President John Loughman. Yet the snafu may have proven a happy accident. “I’m pleased to have it back in Morristown,” he said.
Joni Gilton of Morristown seemed delighted, too, especially after discovering Green Point Juicery, which will bring its Kiwi/apple/spinach/Romaine lettuce concoctions and dairy-free mocha cheesecake to Speedwell Avenue in a few weeks.
“I’ll be going there for sure,” Gilton said.

“I haven’t been disappointed by anything,” said Homeless Solutions Inc. CEO Dan McGuire, who confessed a weakness for the Sterling Tavern’s boar ragu.
A few eateries played against type. Morristown’s Committed Pig, for example, served bacon scallion macs-and-cheese.
“Everybody loves our burgers. But we’ve got other stuff,” hostess Paige Zelitsky explained.
