What Are the Ideologies Behind the Alt-Right Movement?
Expert Dissects White Nationalism

Madison, N.J. – An expert will dissect white nationalism and the alt-right movement during a talk at Drew University on Feb. 27.

The expert is Keegan Hankes, a managing data intelligence analyst at the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala. His talk is sponsored by Drew’s Center for Holocaust/Genocide Study and its Center on Religion, Culture and Conflict.

southern poverty law center logoHankes, who joined the law center in 2013, will explore far-right ideologies and the mindset of individuals who believe that “white identity” is under attack.

The two-hour talk will include time for questions. It will take place in Room 28 of the Learning Center, which is in the basement of Drew’s Rose Memorial Library. The start time is 4:30 p.m.

Center for Holocaust/Genocide Study

Founded in 1992 through a grant from the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education, the Center for Holocaust/Genocide Study offers a variety of events, including an annual November conference in memory of Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) and an annual commemoration of Yom HaShoah (Day of Remembrance).

The Center also offers films, lectures, performances, workshops and commemorations of the Holocaust and other genocides, such as those in Armenia, Bosnia, Cambodia, Darfur and Rwanda. The Center enriches Drew’s undergraduate and graduate courses by bringing notable scholars and speakers to campus, organizing visits to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and providing additional resources that enhance the study of Holocaust and genocide. It also supports faculty research by, for example, commissioning an English translation of a German text dealing with Nazi slave labor camps. All events are open to the larger community.

Drew University

Drew University, a Phi Beta Kappa liberal arts university, includes the College of Liberal Arts, Drew Theological School and Caspersen School of Graduate Studies. Drew is located on a beautiful, wooded, 186-acre campus in Madison, New Jersey, a thriving small town close to New York City.   2. Drew is one of the gems of the Madison/Morristown area. We are so fortunate to have such a first-rate University offering a diverse number of public programs of learning, culture and the arts. The speaker programs of all of Drew’s departments is outstanding. In particular, the events dealing with Theology, Justice and Peace, as well as the Environment and current affairs, to name a few, are great.
