Don’t be fooled by Wednesday’s balmy weather. Spring will return to winter overnight, with a vengeance, forecasters say.

winter storm watch logoA winter storm watch has been upgraded to a winter storm warning by the National Weather Service, from midnight to 4 pm on Thursday.

Six- to 10 inches of snow are possible for Greater Morristown, with winds gusting to 30 mph.

“The heavy snow will make many roads potentially impassable for several hours during the worst part of the storm which should be 5 AM to 10 AM,” the service reports.

“There may be widespread power outages due to the weight of the snow on tree limbs and power lines. The threat for power outages will be less where temperatures are mostly below 30 degrees during the snow.”

“The data suggests that the snow will intensify by 4-5 am, with moderate to occasionally heavy snow, then likely to continue through about noon,” Paul said in a statement.

“Lingering lighter snow may continue into the afternoon hours, before finally tapering off by 4-5 pm. Total accumulations of 6-11 inches are forecast at this time. We anticipate rapid accumulations on all surfaces and a significant impact to the morning rush hour.”

Paul urged the public to dial 911 only for an emergency.

Power outages should be reported to JCP&L here or by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877).

The utility reminds people to stay away from all power lines, and to assume that they are live and dangerous.
