Morris Plains resident and Morristown High School junior Selia Myers will perform at Carnegie Hall at 2 PM on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, as a member of the Carnegie Hall 2017 High School Honors Performance Series.
Selia was one of more than 1,000 students from all 50 states and numerous countries who submitted an audition recording to perform in the famed concert hall’s Honors Performance Series.
Her submission convinced the selection committee she deserved a chair in the elite honors band.
A remarkably gifted and versatile musician whose primary and secondary instruments are flute and piccolo, respectively, Selia also plays bass flute, alto flute, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, and clarinet.
Selia has been a valued member of the high school’s music program since her freshman year.
Under the direction of band director Michael Russo, Selia has performed with the MHS Wind Ensemble and Spectrum Jazz Ensemble.
“Mr. Russo often encourages me to audition for honor bands outside of school, which has helped me develop my skills as a musician,” Selia said.
Most recently, Selia was selected as First Chair, Piccolo, for the NJ All-State Symphonic Band.
Selia is looking forward to the experience of playing at Carnegie Hall and the opportunity to work under the direction of renowned conductor Dr. Kenneth Ozello, of the University of Alabama, who will direct the concert performance.
“I am looking forward to expanding my musical abilities, experiencing new or different musical styles, and meeting musicians from all over the world,” said Selia. “Performing in Carnegie Hall, with its beautiful acoustics and sound quality, is an incredible and exciting opportunity.”
