Morris Township welcomed a familiar face to its Police Department this week.

Derek Adair, a graduate of Morristown High School, was sworn in at the Township Committee meeting as his father held the Bible.

Police chief John McGuinness said Adair was president of his class at the police academy and delivered a strong  commencement address to more than 80 fellow graduates.

“He’s a great candidate, and we are absolutely fortunate to have him be part of our organization,” said Committeeman Peter Mancuso, the son of a police officer.

Adair earned a degree in criminal justice from Montclair State University, and attained the rank of sergeant in the New Jersey National Guard, McGuinness said.

For the next 8- to 12 weeks,  Adair will undergo field training with Township officers on patrol.
