From Temple B’Nai Or
“Nature’s Embrace,” a one-woman art exhibition featuring Leah K. Tomaino’s recent works of art, opens today, Nov. 14, 2016, and runs through Jan. 6, 2017.
This exhibition is at The Linda Grandis Blatt Gallery at Temple B’nai Or, 60 Overlook Road, Morristown. Gallery hours are during Temple B’nai Or functions and by appointment during business hours, Monday through Friday. An opening reception for “Nature’s Embrace” will be held at The Linda Grandis Blatt Gallery at Temple B’nai Or, 60 Overlook Road, Morristown, on Nov. 20, 2016, from 3 pm to 5 pm.
Ms. Tomaino’s lush and vibrant artwork springs from simple materials, featuring pioneering collage applications of acrylic paint and paper on canvas.
At first glance, one appreciates the beauty and serenity of each of these paintings, rather than its painstaking genesis in the studio. Each is the product of months of work, in which Leah paints ordinary brown bags with vivid colors, tears them into a myriad of miniature pieces, which she hand-applies to realize her vision.
Inspired by nature’s beauty, her interest in this medium relates to the cycle of life and nature, as the bags start out as trees and she transforms them into an image of the natural world.
Ms. Tomaino’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and are held in both public and private collections. Her most recent solo exhibition was held earlier this year in the Starlight Gallery at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, NJ. Ms. Tomaino has received significant national recognition and numerous awards, including the Medal of Honor & Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation Award for Works on Paper by the National Association of Women Artists, Inc.
Public television and various press celebrated Ms. Tomaino’s work in esteemed 2014 exhibitions at The Morris Museum and at The George Segal Gallery, Montclair State University. Ms. Tomaino is represented by the National Association of Women Artists, New York, NY, and by Sidetracks Art Gallery, New Hope, PA.
About Leah K. Tomaino: Leah K. Tomaino holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Cooper Union, New York, NY. She earned her Master of Arts from William Paterson University, Wayne, NJ. She is an adjunct professor of visual arts at the County College of Morris and at Centenary University, where she teaches two- and three-dimensional design classes. Ms. Tomaino also teaches at Artworks Studio, Randolph, where she has been a life-long resident.

The Gallery was made possible in 2009 by a grant from Bill Blatt in memory of his beloved wife, Linda, to create a welcoming portal into the sacred space of the synagogue for both members and non-members.
