Morristown police: Road closures for road race, Oct. 16

If you see lots of costumed people running around the streets of Morristown this weekend, don’t freak out.

You haven’t overslept  until Halloween.  It’s just the annual Halloween Half Marathon and Relay.

Some 1,500 runners are anticipated on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016.  Morristown police advise motorists to expect road closures between 9 am and 1 pm. A course map is here.

FROM THE MORRISTOWN POLICE:

The run will begin on Maple Avenue at Community Place starting at 10 am and will end on Oak Street between 11:15 am and 1 pm.

The following streets will be subject to intermittent closures and detours:

Start of Race

  • Maple Avenue (Between 9 am and 10:30 will be closed from Miller Road to Dehart Street)
  • Dehart Street (Between Maple Avenue  and Macculloch Avenue will be closed)
  • Community Place (Between South Street and Maple Avenue will be open to local traffic only)
  • Macculloch Avenue (Between Dehart Street and Mt Kemble Avenue will be closed)
  • Mount Kemble Avenue (Between Macculloch Avenue and Springbrook Road: Use James Street as alternate route south)

Return of runners– starting at approximately 11 am

  • James Street (Southgate Parkway to Macculloch Avenue) will be closed to southbound traffic: Use Mount Kemble Avenue (Route 202) as alternate route.
  • Macculloch Avenue (Between James Street and Oak Street) will be closed. Note, local trafic in and out of Assumption School will be allowed during gaps in the race.
  • Oak Street (Between Macculloch and Maple avenues) will be closed until the conclusion of the event.
