Morris Plains voters on Tuesday approved a $6.2 million referendum to raise property taxes to renovate the 93-year-old Borough School.
The unofficial results:
Question 1 (yes = 670) (no = 246)
Question 2 (yes = 657) (no = 255)
Forty percent of the cost will be absorbed by the state. The impact on local taxpayers will be $3.72 million.
For someone owning a home with the average assessed value of $450,000, this would amount to an estimated $115 annual property tax increase.
This was the first school referendum in Morris Plains since 2002.
