Greater Morristown has a rare opportunity to view and ride exotic World War Two airplanes this week.
The Wings of Freedom Tour has landed at Morristown Municipal Airport, and will stay through Friday, Sept. 9, 2016.
You can see the backbone of the United States Army Air Force, lovingly restored: A B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-24 Liberator, a B-25 Mitchell and a P-51 Mustang.
It’s brought to you by the non-profit Collings Foundation.
Now in its 27th year, the Wings of Freedom Tour visits 35 states, educating the public about these fabled machines and the brave men who flew them.
Tours cost $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12.
Thirty-minute flights in the B-17 and B-24 cost $450. It’s $400 to ride in the B-25, and “stick time” in the P-51 for $2,200.
The B-17 is one of eight Flying Fortresses in flying condition in the country.
The ground tours are open today, Tuesday, Sept. 6, until 5pm; on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am-5 pm, and from and 9 am-noon on Friday. The flights and “stick time” take place before and after ground tours.
