THURSDAY, AUG. 4, 2016:

Catch a free movie at the Mayo: Pitch Perfect (PG-13), 7 pm at the Mayo Performing Arts Center.  At 100 South St. Call 973-539-8008 for more.

The Verizon Corporate Classic 5K  gets a do-over at 7:30 pm. A storm prompted Morristown police to postpone the event last month. This time, it’s scaled down to an untimed two-mile “fun run.”  The staging area is Morristown High School, in the parking lot at Atno Avenue.

FRIDAY, AUG. 5:

Experience Tyke Time at the Urban Farm at Lafayette in Morristown at 10 am. Children ages 3-5 can explore, read stories, do crafts, and more; new farm / outdoor themes every week. Parents or caregivers must be present. Cost: free; donations accepted by Grow It Green Morristown. At 31 Hazel St.

Road trip, anyone?  The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival offers three days of great music, great people and great vistas on the edge of the Berkshires, in Hillsdale, NY.  Headliners include Patty Larkin, Tom Rush, the Grand Slambovians, the Nields, and many emerging artists. Dancing, too. This festival is a favorite of local Folk Project members. Come for a day or the weekend. Bring your tent, and an instrument for campfire sing-alongs. Admission: $45-$185; discounts for youths, students and seniors.

Looking for cool fun for the kids?  Enjoy Minions (PG) in air-conditioned comfort at 2 pm in the Morristown & Township Library.  Admission: Free. One Miller Road, Morristown.

Organist Jackson Borges will salute June Van Thoen, who is retiring as music director after 29 years at the Morristown United Methodist Church, with a free concert  at 7:30 pm. The program will include works by Copland, Vaughan, Bach and others. At 50 S. Park Place. Call 973-538-2132 for more.

The Minstrel  in Morris Township presents a special concert, featuring harp-guitarist  Muriel Anderson at 8 pm. Admission: $20 in advance, $25 at the door.  At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road.

SATURDAY, AUG. 6:

The Morris Plains Farmers Market is back, on Saturdays from June 11 to Oct. 8, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Speedwell Avenue Merchant Block across from the train station.

The  Morris County Tourism Bureau’s Summer 2016 Historical Walking Tours holds a “curator’s presentation’’ at the Washington’s Headquarters Museum at 10 am. As part of the National Park Service’s 2016 Centennial Celebration, Dr. Jude Pfister, curator of the Morristown National Historical Park, will give a unique look at the Park Service’s vast archives–a half-million objects spanning from 15,000 B.C. to the 20th century. There even is a letter from Elizabeth I, monarch when Shakespeare died 400 years ago. Cost: $20, includes park admission for day. Free parking onsite. Call 973-631-5151 to pre-register.

Minerals are good for you!  Stock up at the annual sale by the Morris Museum Mineralogical Society, at the Morris Museum in Morris Township from 10 am to 5 pm. A half dozen vendors of fossils and gemstones will be on hand; also look for choice specimens donated by John Sanfaçon to support the Museum’s mineralogical collection. Admission: $5 Adults; $3 Children (12 & under); includes access to all Museum galleries and exhibitions. At 6 Normandy Heights Road. Call (973) 971-3700 for more.

 


SUNDAY, AUG. 7:

The Morristown Farmers Market is back for its 26th season, every Sunday through Nov. 20 from 8:30 am to 2 pm, in parking lot 10 between Morris and Spring streets.

Worship on the historic Morristown Green at 10 am, with members of the local Presbyterian and United Methodist churches. All are welcome.

The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey kicks off its Summer Music Festival with Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, at 3 pm at Dolan Hall at the College of St. Elizabeth, 2 Convent Road, Morris Township. Tickets: $5-$40.
