Video: Monica Orecchio describes her close call
It wasn’t quite a Sequoia. But the oak that clipped Monica and Joe Orecchio’s house on Thursday packed a mighty wallop, just the same.
Their Georgian Road home was without electricity on Friday, and the attic now has a clear view of the sky. But Monica was feeling pretty lucky that this was the extent of the damage from a tornado-like storm so strong it blew her dog’s ears up and down in their backyard.
A mountain bike proved handy for navigating over and around the damage across Morristown, where hundreds remained without power as of lunchtime. A JCP&L spokeswoman said the utility still aims to have everyone back online by 11:30 o’clock tonight, July 15, 2016.
Morristown and Morris Township each opened cooling shelters, and the town offered free use of the Burnham Park Pool to residents on Friday.
Touring the area felt a bit like the day after New Year’s. Except these weren’t Christmas trees littering the curb.
