George Gramby Day to celebrate 24th year, July 9 in Morristown

On Saturday, July 9, 2016, the George Gramby Observance Committee will host the 24th Annual George Gramby Drug and Alcohol Prevention Day at George Gramby Memorial Park (formerly Abbett Avenue Playground) starting at noon and ending at 7 PM.

Former Councilwoman Raline Smith-Reid will be honored on George Gramby Day.

The event is a community celebration promoting living sober lives and honoring individuals that exemplify the characteristics of the late George Gramby, who was the founder of a substance abuse referral center in Morristown named “Beginnings.”

This year’s sponsors include the Town of Morristown, First Energy/Jersey Central Power & Light Co., PNC Bank, and Morris County Prevention is Key.  The theme is “Lifting up the Community one day at a time.”

The event will include men’s softball games, youth basketball games, face painting, food, vendors, a speaker in recovery and local talent entertainment with continuous DJ music.

Individuals who have demonstrated commitment, consistency, dedication, desire to help others, diligence, honesty, humbleness, integrity, leadership, and community service will receive humanitarian awards at 4 pm.

Award winners this year are former Morristown Councilwoman Raline Smith-Reid, Remy Pharr, and Morris County Prevention is Key.

The George Gramby Observance Committee is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Its mission is dedicated to continuing the vision of the late George Gramby by heightening the community’s awareness of the disease of addiction through prevention, education and the celebration of recovery.
