Do you have what it takes to become one of Morristown’s Finest?

The answer starts with a Civil Service test. It’s offered every three years, and your next window is July 1-Aug. 31, 2016, town Administrator Jillian Barrick announced at Tuesday’s council meeting.

“I want to make sure everyone knows the exam is out there,” she said.

To qualify for the test, you must be a Morristown resident between ages 18 and 35. (There are some exceptions for veterans.) The fee is $50, and you can apply via the Civil Service website, Barrick said.

The exam is a way to promote diversity within the police force, added Barrick, noting that the administration wants to “make sure our police department represents our entire community, in every single respect.

“The best way to ensure we have the best pool of applicants throughout our entire community is to make sure we have as many applicants as we can.”

Morristown police will host an open house at police headquarters on Saturday, July 16, 2016, between 10 am and 2 pm.

It’s “for anyone who is interested in learning more about what the career of being a police officer is like, to ask questions about the exam, or anything else,”  the administrator said.
